Delhi Budget: Fund cut for power sector
Banking heavily on power projects to be commissi-oned this year, Delhi government is hoping that the capital will have surplus electricity in the coming months. The government has, however, decreased the proposed allocation to the energy sector from Rs 461 crore last year to Rs 110.80 crore in the budget 2010-11 .
Three units of the Bawana power station generating 750 MW are expected to be commissioned by September this year and another 500 MW from the Jhajjar power station will be operational by October 2010, in time for the Commonwealth Games. The remaining three units of the Bawana plant will be commissioned by March next year and 250MW from Jhajjar plant, which is a joint venture between Delhi, Haryana and NTPC, will reach the capital around the same time.
Besides enhanced generation, the government is spending heavily on infrastructure upgrade and maintenance. Delhi Transco will commission 400-kv sub-stations at Mundka and three new 220-kv sub-stations at Masjid Moth, Ridge Valley and IGI airport shortly.
Talking about the performance of private discoms in bringing down AT&C losses, the government said that the target levels set by Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) have been successfully achieved.
